Hot Bolting (Stud Replacement) has become more common in recent years as a means of preparation for a shutdown / turnaround.

Hot bolting refers to the practice of re-tightening or replacing bolts on flange connections while the pipe is still in service, meaning it is filled with liquid or gas.

Replacing old bolts for new in flanges that are to be opened during a shutdown removes a lot of the potential for problematic situations arising during that shutdown.

In order to carry out Hot Bolting in the safest possible way is to utilise a Hot Bolt Clamp to ensure the flange connection is securely clamped whilst bolts are systematically removed one at a time and replaced with new bolts. The potential for disturbance of the flange joint, bolts or gasket is sufficiently high enough to warrant additional precaution.

Patriot International’s specially designed Hot Bolt Clamp provides an external clamping force to maintain the joint integrity whilst the Hot Bolting procedure is undertaken. Our clamps are not restricted to 4 or 8 bolt flanges. All flange sizes have the possibility for failure when disturbed during a Hot Bolt procedure. Our Hotbolt Clamps are delivered in a custom made pelicase with all necessary tools, bolts, nuts and a calibrated hand held torque wrench.
